            Thomas Smith, aged 26, and John Kennedy, aged 42, found guilty of the highway robbery of John Matthews in the parish of Rickmansworth on 13th May 1787: robbing him of 3 linen sheets (valued at 10/-), a cloth coat (valued at 6/-), a cloth waistcoat (valued at 3/-), a man’s hat (valued at 1/-), a apir of worsted stockings (valued at 2/-), a pair of cloth breeches (valued at 2/6), a pair of men’s leather shoes (valued at 1/-), a silk handkerchief (value at 6d), a pair of metal shoe buckles (valued at 2d) and 14 silver shilling pieces.  In passing sentence the Judge ordered their bodies to be hanged in chains after execution.
